Hamsterfist Top Ten Games of this Generation

Ok so this is cliche. So I said Top Tens are stupid. Well bite me. Here is Hamsterfist's Top Ten games (series) this generation.

10 The Orange Box

Hands down one of the best values in gaming history. Weirdly enough the top billed game(s) on this disc, the Half-Life 2 and the two episodes, are not what make this a gem. Don’t get me wrong, as a gaming nerd I love Gordon Freeman as much as the next guy, but Portal is what shines here. Through in Team Fortress 2 and you have yourself a deal. If you don’t own this yet, what is wrong with you? (Just don’t buy the PS3 version; valve does not heart the PS3.)

9 LittleBigPlanet

I was never super stoked for this game when it was announced. Sure it looked neat, but just another platformer with junkie user created levels. I bought LittleBigPlanet for my kids, and they convinced me to play along with them. Boy was I wrong. Ok so the controls are a little floaty, so what. The amount of creative user created levels is astonishing. There are even rare times where some of the levels go into the, dare I say it, art area!

8 Killzone 2

Console gaming’s beauty leader, as of now. If you are a PS3 owner, and want to impress a non-gamer, just toss this game into your console. Add in the fact that the story is ok and you have a winner here. Of course the real star of this show is the multiplayer. I had a blast leveling up. It’s just that once I got there, I stopped playing. The ride is worth it on this one though.

7 The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

I know, I know. This game was originally developed for the GameCube. So what. It is another Zelda that kicks the usual ass. Same old basic story, with the same old sling shot, still worth playing and loving every minute of it. If you are a Wii owner that does not have the component cables, get them for this game. The composite cables make it look like junk.

6 Burnout Paradise

Released January of 2008 this title is still chugging along great. With all the free content originally released, gamers continued to support this title. Never mind the fact that most of the content recently has been for play, it makes no difference. This is an old standby, and if you are not sure what to play one afternoon, Burnout will be there for you.

5 Grand Theft Auto 4

So it wasn’t the old Grand Theft Auto that we were all used too. If you want that, go play Saints Row 2. If you want a beautifully detailed city, with realistic driving and an insane story, purchase this title. I will say that the whole no check points in a mission and nothing really going on in the city hurt this title. Without those flaws, this would have easily been the number one game.

4 Metal Gear Solid 4

“For shame. For shame.” That is what you should say to me. I was never a huge Metal Gear Solid Fan. Sure I have played a couple of times over at a friend’s house, but I just never got into the series. For some reason the refined gameplay that was so touted made me purchase this game day one. Albeit it can seem at times like nothing more than an interactive video, Metal Gear Solid 4 relays one of the best experiences I have had this generation in consoles. If you are a PS3 owner, this is the one title that is a MUST own.

3 Gears of War

While I did not rank Gears of War 2 all that high, I still love playing the game. Same could be said for the first one. In neither was the story experience all that great and honestly I found both to have frustrating vehicle scenes that really hampered the experience for me. It’s a much different story for the online, at least for this writer. Maybe I just love chain sawing people and need to see a shrink. Who knows.

2 Left 4 Dead

Zombies, zombies, zombies. Left 4 Dead offers THE co-op experience this generation. Valve really created something special with this game. The four campaigns never really tire, and every time you play it will offer a unique experience thanks to the game director. I am sure the sequel will top the original in every way. Maybe even pushing this series up to number one.

1 Call of Duty

Do you want the standard of shooters this generation? Do you want not one, but two titles that are still in the Xbox Live top 10 games played? (I don’t know the stats for the PS3, sorry.) Then buy Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty World at War. Play them often, and be happy! Disregard what I said about Left 4 Dead. As soon as Modern Warfare 2 comes out, that will seal this series as number one in this generation of gaming.

Honorable Mentions: (Games that I have not played yet, liked but not good enough for the Top Ten, or are not even out yet.)

Tiger Woods PGA ’10 (Wii), Wii Sports Resort, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Heavy Rain, Resident Evil 5

Orangebox = Boring Story (Team Fortress 2 / Portal = Pass)
LBP = Played Only by People who are LTS (A Little Too Stupid)
Killzone2 = Plot was dumber than a sack of Sackboys
Zelda =.... pfff, whatever....
Burnout = maybe playable, but definitely NOT Top 10 material
GTA4 = top 10 agreed. Congratulations, you're not a complete idiot! (but anyone could have gotten that one right)
MGS4 = Nice to look at, but siriusly mentolly challunged once you get over those flashy rasters.
Gears of War = A Generational Top 10 goes waaay beyond overrated IMO. It was a little something new mixed with a whole lot of something old.
Left 4 Dead = Left out of my collection - therefore, I have no opinion other than it probably blows zombies like the rest of these choices.
Call of Duty = Fun for the first two days, after that, zero replay value.

why so many crapy fps? they suck. left4dead and gears of war... 2 of the worst games ever

I would take out Killzone 2, Gears, L4D, and LBP and put in Uncharted, Infamous, Mass Effect, and Bioshock. But why bother cuz Uncharted 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction are gonna blow all of these away

My top 10 next gen game list(not just because I like these games but because they are overall actually good).

1. Metal Gear Solid 4
2. LittleBigPlanet
3. Uncharted 1
4. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion(With or without the expansion)
5. Killzone 2
6. Crysis
7. InFamous
8. Guitar Hero: Metallica
9. Warhawk
10. Lair(I had no problems with this games controls in the first place, I think most people were just to lazy to do more then move an analog and were to stupid to get used to it)

Soon I think that some of these games will be replaced by Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Uncharted 2, MAG, Gran Turismo 5, Demons Souls, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Final Fantasy XIV Online, God of War III, White Knight Chronicles, The Last Guardian, LittleBigPlanet(PSP), Monster Hunter Freedom: United, Tekken 6, and more.

take out COD4 replace with infamous, take out GTAIV (thats the MOST OVERRATED GAME IN EXISTENCE o besides halo 3) replace with uncharted, remove L4D replace with dead space (that was by far the better horror game, even resi 5 is better than L4D), take out burnout paradise replace with GT5 prologue, take out zelda and replace with ratchet and clank.
and i would agree.
i dont see how people could possiable enjoy zelda games they have not changed 1 bit in the last what 20 years?
how can you play the same game for 20 years and still enjoy it. same goes for fable 2.
than honorable mentions would be.

haze.
resistance series.
